Isn’t life a journey! It’s amazing the life choices one makes that ultimately lead them into the life that surrounds them
In 2001 Tammy met Bryce in the beautiful city of Saskatoon, Sk. Bryce worked as an Emergency Medical Technician in Saskatoon and Tammy was an Emergency Medical Dispatcher. It was often the joke that Tammy told Bryce what to do and where to go everyday….and Bryce would tell you that not much has changed over the years. Bryce eventually began employment with other branches within the emergency services field and Tammy began her company, EarthWear Face and Body Products – specializing in making natural skin care and bath products in small batches.
The company grew until it found a permanent home at the Saskatoon Farmers Market. Bryce’s career eventually helped facilitate the move to Cranbrook, BC. It was during this time that both Tammy and Bryce realized that life was passing them by without fulfilling one of their last goals: to be able operate a business in the beautiful Kootenay Region of British Columbia. In 2017 Bryce and Tammy sold their home in Cranbrook and purchased The Yahk Soap Shop and Two Scoop Steve in Yahk, BC
They changed the name to The Yahk Soap and Candle Co and renovated Two Scoop Steve to include a small soup and Sandwich bar. In 2021 Bryce retired early, deciding that the business, as well as Tammy, needed his full time attention. They are happy to introduce for the summer of 2021 the addition of 10 000 sq foot Market Garden open to the public to purchase fresh grown vegetables as well. In addition to the garden, an outdoor grill and deep fryer were added to the property to serve up freshly grilled burgers and crispy fries.
Tammy and Bryce would like to thank the community of Yahk for all their support and encouragement over the last few years
Buttin is a lovable little goat. When the other two are ahead of the line waiting and pigging out on treats, Buttin is patiently waiting his turn in the back. But don’t turn your back on him as he is also quick to nibble on your jacket or anything you might have hanging out of your back pocket!
Toot is the strong silent type and when he gets to know you enjoys being scratched and petted for as long as you want. Sometimes passing up on foraging fresh cut tree branches for love and attention.
Our little piece of paradise in Yahk, BC. is a must stop on your way through the Kootenays. The cutest little soap shop in the Kootenays! A little shop full of over 60 different kinds of our handmade soap and a huge collection of bath, body and skin care that are handmade on site.
The locally famous Two Scoop Steve has been serving up Ice Creamy goodness since the 90’s. Today you will be able to choose from 24 different hard ice cream flavours. You can choose to have it served on a regular cone or one of Steve’s waffle cones that are baked in store! Perhaps you want your favorite flavour mixed up into a thick milkshake. Two Scoop Steve does that as well. In the mood for a strawberry sundae? Two Scoop steve also offers homemade strawberry and blueberry toppings with berries sourced from Creston. Need some lunch before Dessert? Be sure to come inside and experience the Yahk Mountain Cafe. Serving our homemade soup and sandwiches using local ingredients when it is season. Need a little more, on select days the outdoor grill is fired up and available to serve you a juicy BBQ hamburger, again topped with locally produced ingredients. Two Scoop Steve and the Yahk Mountain Cafe is a lunch time destination so it's recommended to come early as the homemade flare tends to sell out!
New in 2021 was the addition of the 10 000 sq ft Garden Market. When in season The Garden boasts a modest supply of vine ripe tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, and so much more. There isn’t anything better than fresh garden vegetables! We invite you to stroll through the veggie patch on the designated walking path and see first hand where the veggie’s you buy and eventually consume comes from. We are passionate about growing and excited to invite visitors to experience the garden…even a vegetable garden can be an inspiring place of reflection. After visiting the vegetable garden be sure to stroll through the perennial gardens along the Moyie River. The walking path through the forest garden is open to the public during summer business hours and offers an inviting place to stretch your legs and refresh your mind after a long drive.
Our goats are our pets and have been with us since we took over the Business in 2017. They are as fun to care for as you may think and the Soap Shop wouldn’t be the same without them.
